I recently created CateFamilyOnline.com in order to communicate with family and friends about the kids. I am going to put all the post about the kids on that site as opposed to this one.

We use to use a combination of email and photo sharing sites to share pictures with family. That was a hassle and there was inevitably always problems. I am hoping that this site in combination with Flickr will make that process easier and better for everyone.

Feel free to subscribe to that site if you are interested.

Spring Training

The San Diego Padres pitchers and catchers report on Thursday. The position players report on Feb. 19, with the first full-squad workout set for Feb. 21. The pitchers have been a core strength for the Padres for the last several years and they should be even stronger this years with the addition of Greg Maddux.

I am really pumped about the season starting. Christie thinks that I am nuts. I am looking forward to taking the kids a several games at Petco Park. The following is one of my favorite shots from last season.

The NC Times provided a good summary of this years outlook for the team. If you are interested in staying current this year, my favorite sources include Ducksnorts, San Diego Union, NC Times, and Gaslamp Ball.

Final Stellent Crescendo

Stellent Crescendo, Stellent’s annual customer and partner conference was last week. It was held at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego.  Most people spent the first night talking about the great weather. I can see why considering it was -20 F in Minneapolis and about 70 F in San Diego on that first day.

Jo O’Connor and myself presented a session entitle “Get Your Users to Contribute: Strategies for Increasing User Adoption”. I spent the first part of the session talking about several best practices which included:

  • Understand the requirements of the contributors and consumers
  • Properly train and support your users
  • Ongoing communication
  • Recognition and incentives
  • Focus on usability

Jo then demonstrated many great product features that help drive user adopting including RSS, profiles, Outlook integration, subscriptions, etc. The audience was great and provided an lot of additional ideas and experiences. I hope everyone was able to take away a few good ideas that they could put to use.

Some of my other favorite sessions included Bex’s talk on Enterprise Mash-ups, Billy Cripe and Amir Kader’s talk on how to “pimp your Content Server, and several of the sessions on Oracle Fusion Middleware.

This was the final Crescendo. All future Stellent user conferences will be part of Oracle’s OpenWorld and independent Oracle user groups. This year’s OpenWorld is scheduled for Nov 11-15th in San Francisco. Crescendo was always such a great intimate experience – it was always easy to find and talk to customers, partners and Stellent R&D and Marketing. Last year, 41,000 people attended OpenWorld. I am looking forward to the new experience but it will definitely be different.

San Francisco Weekend

We took the whole family to San Francisco for a long weekend recently. Zoe was born in San Fancisco so she was very excited to where we use to live. The kids also got to ride the cable car and saw the sea lions at the warf.

We also got to go to my favorite place, the Ferry Building, on Saturday morning for the farmers market.
